Having a contact phone number labeled "CompanyMainPhone" is probably not the best way to present an extension label to users. In order to provide more user friendly labels, it is highly recommended to configure “Alternate Labels” to provide replacement labels to all “Phone attributes” listed in the external sources configuration. It also allows mapping external sources extensions properly when moving it from one world to the other.

External sources are:

•LDAP

•Microsoft Exchange

Create an alternate label for external sources

Creating an alternate label for external sources is similar to creating an alternate label procedure. Moreover, in alternate label edition, add an external name matching the external source label. So, the External Name represents the name of the field received from the external source and the Display Name represents a readable label displayed on the turret interface.

When a turret synchronizes with Exchange, alternate labels are automatically fetched from existing contacts. But it is highly recommended to set up at least a few alternate labels to allow creating contacts from the Turret.
