Maintenance Plan

IT&Operations > Job Policies

This job policy allows Administrators to schedule the execution of the built-in maintenance plan.

The maintenance plan describes a series of maintenance operations needed by the TSS's database to maintain its health and performance. This maintenance plan is a mandatory plan to execute on each TSS installation, and must be scheduled to run one time per day, while the TSS database is not heavily on demand.

Prior manual methods

Prior methods described the manual installation and scheduling of a maintenance plan for each TSS install on a standard server.

Maintenance plan vary following the target database engine. You can still find the manual installation topics here:

•SQL Server

•MySQL

When installed and scheduled manually, the administrator has to remember to deploy the up to date plan for each new install or update of TSS. To ease this process, we introduce a new way to run automatically this maintenance plan via a job policy running on your primary TSS.

Execution via a job policy

The job policy of type Maintenance Plan allows administrators to schedule the execution of the built-in maintenance plan directly from the TSS Console. It simplifies the maintenance process by no longer requiring any configuration or manual update.

You can find it by navigating to System > Job Policies via the main menu.

It is just a regular job policy, the maintenance plan definition is directly handled by the TSS and stored in the database itself.

Availability on standard server installation

For standard server installation, you can at any time replace your manual maintenance plan by an automatic one.

When switching from manual maintenance plan to automatic maintenance plan using a job policy, subtasks targeting databases for which the automatic maintenance plan has been activated must be removed from the manual maintenance plan (to prevent these subtasks to be done twice on the same database).

Active by default on virtual appliance

By default, an instance of this job policy will be present and active on any TSS installed in a Virtual Appliance. It can nevertheless be disabled in advanced setup when using external database in Virtual Appliance deployment, to be managed manually by the database administrator.
