Standard Servers

The supported standard server operating systems are:

Rocky Linux:  v10.x

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL):  v10.x

Operating System Recommendation

Rocky Linux is the default and recommended platform for standard BT Call Server deployments.
Rocky Linux is built directly from RHEL source code and is designed to be 100% bug-for-bug compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux,
meaning it behaves identically to RHEL at the binary and operational level.
It is provided with a 10-year support lifecycle at no cost, with security patching synchronized to RHEL through the Rocky Linux Security Advisories system.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) should only be used where the customer has a specific requirement for it.
RHEL requires an active Red Hat subscription (via Subscription Manager), which incurs a license cost.
Since Rocky Linux delivers equivalent compatibility, stability, and security update cadence without this cost, it is the preferred choice for standard deployments.

Setup and configuration of RHEL Subscription Manager is the customer's responsibility.

Azure deployments

For Azure deployments, RHEL v10.x is the preferred platform.

Azure's RHEL marketplace images bundle the Red Hat subscription cost into the VM's hourly/usage cost, using Azure's own update repository (RHUI),
so there is no separate Subscription Manager licensing step required.

By contrast, Rocky Linux's Azure marketplace images have a history of maintenance inconsistencies, making RHEL the more dependable choice in this environment.
