When a user is contacted by another by intercom line, his shortcut turns from violet to circled orange and he hears the other user.

Here is the shortcut in his initial state.

When the user is contacted by another on his intercom line, the shortcut blinks with the other user's name and circled orange.

If the user has configured the direct intercom auto-answer mode (see configuration), the intercom call is bidirectional and shortcut turns from violet to green circled orange. Both users can talk together directly.
