Traps management

Traps are sent on 255.255.255.255:162 by default. It’s strongly recommended to configure one or several trap destinations which handle IP Trade device traps. That may be done using Boot Settings (Turrets & TPOs).

IP Trade devices traps may concern:

•a simple SNMP variable value

•a SNMP table field value

•a particular event which is not directly linked to a SNMP variable

Traps concerning a simple SNMP variable value or SNMP table field value are fully managed by SNMP module. On value change, SNMP module check directly related traps and send trap on the network if trap conditions are encountered.

•For punctual variable that means the traps are checked each time the applicative layer push a value in SNMP module.

•For continuous variables that means the traps are checked each time value is updated because of management entity request.

What about continuous variables and traps if no management entity requests variable update? Maximum check delay can be defined individually for each IP Trade device trap. That way SNMP module can ensure a minimum check rate.

•SNMP module periodically browse through trap list and check every trap having a maximum check delay that has been reached or passed.

•If SNMP module checks a trap on a continuous SNMP variable, that may cause the value to be requested from SNMP module to applicative layer. So, that may cause a variable update.
